We are particularly interested in receiving information and recommendations about any good eateries that you may be able to recommend. We say 'eateries' in contrast to the more serious restaurants that are classified in many guides. We mean the inexpensive eating places that offer a good welcome, pleasant surroundings and good quality food at reasonable prices. The tradition of the 'Relais Routière' - the local roadside cafes that provide a quality meal with little (if any) choice of food - may have declined but they still exist and are very useful while on the road looking for a property.
In some towns and villages (particularly in tourist areas) many catering establishments have abandoned the traditional inclusive lunch and call themselves anything from Café to Restaurant to Grill to Pizzerias to Saladeries not to mention the many of North African, Turkish and Asian origin. Standards will always vary but we'll pass on the message in you know some good ones.
And the final part of this appeal is: do let us know of places that serve meals outside the 12.00 - 14.00 period that is so sacred to the French psyche but so inconvenient when out house-hunting!
Despite the above priority we are also interested in attempting to assist those who visit this site with recommendations of any other restaurants, hotels or simpler accommodation that have met with your approval.
